1992

the company was one of the first plants in Poland specialising in fish industry. However, in the beginning, it focused primarily on traditional fish-smoking.

1997

The business profile changed

switching from smoking to fish processing with its specialty – matjes herring. The company gained traditional food market – wholesale stores.

2004

The first major renovation and extension to the company

To accord with the requirements of the European Union, the production site and warehouses were thoroughly modernised. We succeeded in implementation of HACCP standards as well as in building a logistic fleet. The production of goods was spread throughout the whole country, as the company gained new market outlets and established cooperation with new chain stores.

2012

Higher and higher expectations of our clients encouraged us to plan the second extension to the company

Both the production site and cold stores were enlarged and modern high bay stores built. To facilitate reaching clients all over the country the decision was made to further extend the logistic fleet.

2013

A total revolution of production system was achieved thanks to the first investments in a machinery fleet

The plant started to produce finished goods dedicated to individual clients and new assortments were created. To ensure the highest quality of products and procurement services, the company implemented BRC global standard for food safety.

2014

Owing to the third extension and modernisation

our works enlarged its area by 100 %. New machinery was purchased and reorganisation of work in the production site initiated. We started to cooperate with new business partners. The Certification for Quality Management MSC was implemented.

2016

Striving for the continuous improvement

of food safety management systems and high confidence in delivery of safe food to consumers worldwide, we implemented a new project – International Food Standard (IFS). It is required by chain stores originated in German market, such as Lidl and Real, and French market (Auchan, Carrefour)

The Herring Co. has been operating since 1992. Located in Wielka Nieszawka, Central Poland, 10 km from Toruń, it specialises in fish processing and trade.

The raw materials used for production are chiefly herring fillets and flaps imported from Norway. Some smaller amounts are shipped from Iceland and the Netherlands. As a company, we highly prioritize constant development, investments in modern production and fish processing systems.
